12 Volt Refrigerater

12 volt refrigerator

When on the road for long periods of time, keeping a cooler handy makes it easier to grab refreshments and food than to have to try and find someplace to stop. This can make traveling seem longer and seem unsafe when having to stop along unfamiliar roads and highways.

A 12 Volt Refrigerator can be Handier than you Think

Being on the Road with a 12 Volt Fridge Makes Traveling Easier

I’ve needed something to keep my refreshments cold and fresh and was tired of having to rely on the old fashion cooler. Yes, a cooler is essential when in remote areas, but I drive a lot and I don’t stop in many remote areas. I’m tired of having to pick up ice every now and again just to make sure the beverages and snacks stay cold and fresh. Sometimes the ice melts away to fast or I have a cooler full of ice with nothing in it that needs to be cold.

I spoke to a buddy and he suggested that I pick up a 12 volt refrigerator the next time I pass by a Sears. I didn’t know exactly what a 12 volt refrigerator was so I went online and looked one up. I went to the Sears website and found exactly what my friend was talking about. The two brands that appealed to me was the Engel 43 quart fridge/freezer for $911.00 or the Engel 34 quart fridge/freezer for $834.00. I liked the extra room with the Engel 43 quart, but did I need all that extra space? Plus, it’s nearly $70 more than the 34 quart 12 volt refrigerator. Now it’s not like I have $1000 to throw around on such things, but I am on the road a lot more these days and it would just be nice to have something that would make traveling a little easier.

They’re also used for Medical Purposes

I did think that the asking price for these 12 volt refrigerators was rather high. Some more expensive than the refrigerator I had in my home. I didn’t understand why and couldn’t figure it out. As I went through the internet I discovered a website that sold 12 volt refrigerators for medical purposes. State and county health departments use them along with other various governmental organizations. Universities and medical laboratories use them to transport organic tissue from one place to another. Even centers who deal with infectious diseases trust these refrigerators. They can come standard with a precise thermostat with a temperature alarm and get as cold as -20 degrees Celsius. They’re CFC free, energy efficient and environmentally friendly. Works great with AC and DC power and has a UPS battery back-up power supply in case you experience a power outage. They also work just as well if you decide you want just battery power or even just solar. The only brand I’ve seen that makes a 12 volt refrigerator for medical use was the brand Koolatron.
